As a global bitumen supplier, ZUMRUT INT Co. ships penetration, oxidized, cutback and emulsion grades to 35 countries across Southeast Asia, Africa and South America. This page is the entry point to each market — but before the country pages, it sets out what actually differs between destinations: which grade each region specifies, what the sailing time is from our three loading ports, and which countries require a pre-shipment conformity certificate that has to be arranged before the vessel leaves.
What changes between destinations
Buyers often assume that working with a global bitumen supplier means the same product shipped to a different address. Three things actually change, and each of them can stop a cargo at the border.
The grade name changes. India and Bangladesh specify VG-30 under IS 73. Brazil specifies CAP 50/70 under the ANP framework. Most of Africa and Southeast Asia specify 60/70 under ASTM D946 or EN 12591. These often describe similar material, but a certificate issued to the wrong standard will be questioned.
The certification requirement changes. Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and several others operate pre-shipment verification of conformity. The certificate has to be obtained in the country of export before loading and cannot be arranged retrospectively without penalty.
The logistics change. Sailing time from our ports ranges from about 12 days to Kenya to 45 days to Brazil. Landlocked destinations discharge at a coastal gateway and move overland under a separate transit regime.
Loading ports and transit times
We load from three ports, and which one suits depends on the destination and the grade.
| Destination region | Usual load port | Typical sailing | Main discharge gateways |
|---|---|---|---|
| East Africa | Jebel Ali · Bandar Abbas | 12–20 days | Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, Djibouti, Berbera |
| Southern Africa | Jebel Ali | 20–30 days | Durban, Beira, Walvis Bay, Luanda |
| West Africa | Mersin · Jebel Ali | 20–32 days | Lagos, Tema, Abidjan, Dakar, Douala |
| North Africa | Mersin | 5–12 days | Casablanca, Algiers, Tunis, Misrata, Port Sudan |
| Southeast Asia | Jebel Ali · Bandar Abbas | 18–28 days | Port Klang, Laem Chabang, Hai Phong, Manila, Jakarta |
| South America | Jebel Ali · Mersin | 30–45 days | Santos, Paranaguá, Suape, Itaqui |
Transit times are indicative and depend on routing and transhipment. Add three to seven days for the bill of lading after sailing, and a further two to five for the certificate of origin. Where embassy legalization is required, add five to ten working days on top. The full picture is in our bitumen export documentation guide.
Which grade each region specifies
Knowing what a market names before the enquiry arrives saves a round of emails. This is what a global bitumen supplier sees across the destinations below.
| Region | Usual grade named | Standard | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| East and West Africa | 60/70, 80/100 | ASTM D946, EN 12591 | Tropical heat with heavy rainfall. 60/70 is the volume grade |
| Southern Africa | 60/70, 50/70 | SANS 4001-BT1 | South African national standard governs regional supply |
| North Africa | 40/50, 60/70 | EN 12591 | Sustained high temperatures favour harder grades |
| Southeast Asia | 60/70, emulsion | ASTM D946 | High rainfall drives demand for emulsion and prime coats |
| South Asia and Indian contractors | VG-30, VG-40 | IS 73:2013 | Viscosity grading, even on projects outside India |
| Brazil and Latin America | CAP 50/70, CAP 30/45 | ANP specification | Brazilian nomenclature. See our Brazil page |
| Anywhere with airports or ports | 40/50 or PMB | Project specification | Slow and standing loads need a harder or modified binder |
Where a tender names a grade in an unfamiliar system, our bitumen grade equivalence chart maps penetration, VG, PG, AC and Australian grades against each other and explains where the equivalence breaks down.
Conformity certificates by destination
This is the requirement that most often catches new importers. Where a scheme applies, the certificate must be issued in the country of export before the cargo sails.
| Destination | Scheme | Administered by | Arrange before loading? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nigeria | SONCAP | Standards Organisation of Nigeria | Yes |
| Kenya | PVoC | KEBS | Yes |
| Tanzania | PVoC | TBS | Yes |
| Uganda | PVoC | UNBS | Yes |
| Ghana | Conformity assessment | Ghana Standards Authority | Yes |
| Ethiopia | CoC | Ethiopian conformity bodies | Yes |
| Zambia | CoC | ZCSA | Yes |
| Rwanda | PVoC | RSB | Yes |
| South Africa and SACU | No general scheme | SABS standards apply by contract | No |
| Brazil | No pre-shipment scheme | Customs via Siscomex | No |
| Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam | No general scheme | Standard customs clearance | No |
Indicative position at the time of writing. These programmes change and the list of regulated products changes with them. Confirm with the appointed body or your customs broker before booking. Countries not listed above generally clear on standard customs documentation.

Landlocked destinations
Several markets above have no coastline. Cargo discharges at a coastal gateway and moves overland under a transit customs regime that is entirely separate from the import regime.
| Destination | Usual gateway | Overland leg |
|---|---|---|
| Uganda | Mombasa, Kenya | Northern Corridor, road or rail to Kampala |
| Rwanda | Mombasa or Dar es Salaam | Northern or Central Corridor to Kigali |
| Ethiopia | Djibouti | Djibouti–Addis corridor |
| Zambia | Dar es Salaam, Beira or Durban | Long haul. Gateway choice materially changes landed cost |
| Zimbabwe | Beira or Durban | Beira Corridor is usually shorter |
For these destinations the transit documentation is the usual cause of delay, not the import documentation. Arrange it before arrival rather than after.
What every shipment includes
- Batch certificate of analysis issued before loading, with the lot number, production date and each test result against the standard your contract names — not a generic typical-values sheet.
- New sealed steel drums rather than reconditioned, with recorded seal numbers and a stuffing photo set.
- Third-party inspection accepted at the load port by SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek or the surveyor named in your contract.
- Safety data sheet with the booking, in the destination language where required.
- Packing to suit the discharge point — 180 kg and 200 kg drums, 300 kg jumbo bags, or bulk bitutainer where heated facilities exist.
- Payment terms of 30% by TT in advance with the balance against a copy of the bill of lading, or an irrevocable letter of credit at sight for repeat contracts.
Frequently asked questions
Which countries do you supply bitumen to?
Thirty-five countries across Southeast Asia, East, West, Southern and North Africa, and South America. The complete list with a dedicated page for each market is above. If your destination is not listed, contact us — we ship to markets beyond those with published pages.
Which port do you load from?
Jebel Ali in Dubai, Mersin in Turkey and Bandar Abbas in Iran. Which one suits depends on the destination and the grade. Mersin is shortest for North and West Africa; Jebel Ali and Bandar Abbas serve East Africa and Southeast Asia. We confirm the load port with the quotation.
How long does shipping take?
Five to twelve days to North Africa, twelve to twenty to East Africa, twenty to thirty-two to West and Southern Africa, eighteen to twenty-eight to Southeast Asia and thirty to forty-five to Brazil. Add three to seven days for the bill of lading after sailing and a further two to five for the certificate of origin.
Which countries need a certificate of conformity?
Nigeria under SONCAP, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Rwanda under PVoC, Ghana, Ethiopia and Zambia under their own schemes. The certificate must be issued in the country of export before loading and cannot be arranged retrospectively without penalty. South Africa, Brazil and most of Southeast Asia have no pre-shipment scheme for bitumen.
Which grade should I order for my country?
60/70 is the volume grade across most of Africa and Southeast Asia. Hot northern and interior regions often specify 40/50. Brazil names CAP 50/70 under its own system, and Indian contractors specify VG-30 wherever they work. If your tender names a grade in an unfamiliar system, send us the specification rather than the grade name and we will confirm what meets it.
What is the minimum order quantity?
100 MT, roughly seven 20-foot containers of drummed product or five bulk bitutainers. Mixed grades in one shipment are accepted provided each grade reaches at least one full container.
Do you ship to landlocked countries?
Yes. Cargo discharges at a coastal gateway and moves overland — Mombasa for Uganda, Djibouti for Ethiopia, Dar es Salaam or Beira for Zambia and Zimbabwe. The transit customs regime is separate from the import regime and needs arranging before arrival. Gateway choice materially changes the landed cost, so it is worth comparing before booking.
What payment terms do you offer?
30% by TT in advance with the balance settled against a copy of the bill of lading, and an irrevocable letter of credit at sight for repeat contracts. The balance falls due only once the cargo is on the water and documented.
Can you supply oxidized bitumen and emulsion as well as penetration grades?
Yes. Alongside penetration grades we ship oxidized bitumen for waterproofing and industry, cationic and anionic emulsion, cutback grades, polymer modified binder, membrane and gilsonite.
What documents come with the shipment?
Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin and a batch certificate of analysis as standard, plus the safety data sheet, insurance certificate under CIF, and a conformity certificate where the destination requires one. The full picture is in our bitumen export documentation guide.

Tell us your destination
Send us the country, the grade as your contract names it, the quantity and the packing. We will confirm the load port, the realistic timeline including documentation, whether a conformity certificate is needed, and what the certificate of analysis will state. If a different grade would suit the climate better, we will say so.
