General Description of SBS Modified Bitumen

SBS Modified Bitumen Roll Sheet are SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene) rubber modified torch on bitumen membranes that are reinforced with non-woven spun bonded polyester mat having thermo fusible polyethylene film on both sides. They have very good waterproofing qualities combined with excellent flexibility and elasticity. The membrane has very good mechanical properties and durability.

These membranes are a kind of modified bitumen membranes that are made from combination of asphalt with rubber to make a superb durable product. This material is a plastic that already has the elastic properties and also it is a magnificent adhesion to the substrate on a flat roof installation.

The side laps should be min. 5cm and end laps. Details such as corners, edges and joints should be carefully prepared in advance by torching and fixing strips of primer in place. The overlaps should be dressed with a hand trowel to ensure perfect bonding without any opening.

Installation of SBS Modified Bitumen

The best installation method depends on the roof’s size and shape, as well as the specific material brand. However, the heat-welded option is the most common. thickness of the membrane, including the overlaps, where the antiriot barrier is formed by a single 3/4-mm thick layer.

Reinforcement: The reinforcement of the membrane consists of a “non-woven” single strand, heavy weight,
polyester fabric which is isotropic, root proof, thermally fixed, very strong and has a notable ultimate elongation
combined with an optimal resistance to puncture and tearing.

Areas of use: Garden series can be used in all waterproofing systems in contact with the ground or where there
is the risk of the system being attacked by roots such as roof gardens and green walls.

Compound: Distilled bitumen modified with high percentage of SBS elastomeric polymers that ensure excellent
properties of adherence, elasticity and extreme flexibility at low temperatures. Due to the chemical properties of
thermo-plastic rubber, the membrane should be protected against direct sunlight which triggers a process of early
aging.

Reinforcement: Continuous non-woven SPUNBOND polyester (EP series) or strengthened glass fibre (EG
series) with a high mass per unit area, Elastoper guarantees outstanding mechanical performance and dimensional
stability.

Surface Finish: Silica sand, aluminum, self protecting natural or colored slate chippings distributed uniformly
and firmly anchored.

Areas of use: Exceptional performance in applications requiring above average resistance to repeated thermalmechanical action. Metal, prefabricated flat, curved or saw tooth roofs subject to cyclic movements or considerable dimensional variations. Also widely used in underground tanking to waterproof basements and foundations, especially in areas with high humidity in the ground or close to the sea.
