Cutback Bitumen MC-70

Description

Cutback Bitumen MC-70 is dissolved of bitumen in solvents of kerosene. In many countries, kerosene and other volatile petroleum-derived products are added as a cutter or cutback agent to bitumen to reduce (or cutback) the viscosity of the bitumen.

The diluent temporarily reduces the viscosity of the asphalt cement for ease of handling and application. Cutback MC-70 is used in the road maintenance industry where it is used as a prime coat of the base course prior to placing the bituminous surface course.

Cutback Bitumen MC-70 is a type of dissolved Bitumen. To produce this type, solvent oils such as kerosene are used in order to change bitumen into dissolved bitumen or liquid pitch, so that, during the consumption process, the solvent oil evaporates and bitumen residue to obtain the desired adhesion. In many countries, kerosene and other volatile petroleum-derived products are added as a cutter or cutback agent to bitumen to reduce (or cutback) the viscosity of the bitumen. The mixture obtained may be called cutback bitumen.

MC-70 is medium curing (MC) cut-back asphalt consisting of penetration grade asphalt cement and diluents or cutter of medium volatility. The diluents temporarily reduce the viscosity of the asphalt cement for ease of handling and application.

Our MC-70 Cutback Bitumen complies with cutback petroleum asphalts of the Medium-Curing type for use in the construction and treatment of pavements as per ASTM D2028-97 reapproved in 2004.

Application of Bitumen MC-70

Bitumen MC-70 finds wide use in road building and maintenance due to its ability to penetrate and stick to various surfaces. One of its largest uses is for the penetration of prime coats, where it is applied to a base course of aggregate to prepare the surface for paving with asphalt. This process enhances adhesion between the base course and the subsequent layer of asphalt so that pavement structure is made stronger and more durable. MC-70 is also used regularly in stockpile blends and patching, and thus it is a vital material in road repairing, especially where quick and efficient maintenance has to be applied.

Cutback Asphalt MC-70 has another significant use as a primer sealing, which serves as a binding agent between asphalt and road foundations. This makes it essential in superstructure as well as foundation construction in the road industry. The flexibility of MC-70 allows it to be used in the manufacture of asphalt pre-mix, an essential component used in road surfacing and repair. Its workability-improving and viscosity-reducing characteristics make it particularly useful in cold weather, where standard asphalt is too viscous to be applied effectively. Overall, MC-70 is a key contributor to the durability, stability, and longevity of road infrastructure.

Cutback Bitumen MC-70 vs Cutback Bitumen MC-30

The major difference between Cutback Bitumen MC-70 and Cutback Bitumen MC-30 is viscosity and use. MC-70 is more viscous than MC-30, and thus it is used more in dust control, chip seal, and surface treatment in unpaved roads or in milder climates where a moderate rate of curing is required. On the other hand, MC-30 is comparatively low in viscosity, which will penetrate faster and set easier, and hence is ideal for colder temperatures or climates requiring fast curing and instant workability. MC-70’s increased viscosity offers greater adhesion and surface strength in treatments, while MC-30 is best suited to those applications requiring fast-setting properties and low-temperature work.
