Description of Cutback Bitumen MC-3000
Cutback bitumen MC-3000 is a kerosene-based solvent that dissolves bitumen. In many places, kerosene and other volatile petroleum-derived chemicals are used as a cutter or cutback agent to lower the viscosity of bitumen.
The diluent temporarily decreases the viscosity of asphalt cement, making it easier to handle and apply.
Cutback MC-3000 is used in the road maintenance business as a primer coat for the base course before applying the bituminous surface course.
The most prevalent type of cutback bitumen is medium curing, with the MC-3000 grade being the most popular. MC-3000 is a medium curing cutback bitumen with 75% bitumen and the lowest viscosity of all grades.
Cutback Bitumen (MC-3000) is a form of dissolved bitumen. Solvent oils, such as kerosene, are used to convert bitumen into dissolved bitumen or liquid pitch, so that the solvent oil evaporates and the bitumen residue remains to provide the desired adhesion. In many places, kerosene and other volatile petroleum-derived chemicals are used as a cutter or cutback agent to lower the viscosity of bitumen. The resulting mixture may be referred to as cutback bitumen.
MC-3000 is a medium curing (MC) cut-back asphalt made with penetration grade asphalt cement and medium volatility diluents or cutters. The diluents temporarily reduce the viscosity of asphalt cement, making it easier to handle and apply.
Our This productcomplies with cutback petroleum asphalts of the Medium-Curing type for use in the construction and treatment of pavements as per ASTM D2027-13 reapproved in 2004.

Application of Bitumen MC-3000
Cutback Bitumen MC-3000 is a slow-setting asphalt that is extensively used in road construction and maintenance, particularly where deep penetration and long-term bonding are required. Its major use is the penetration of prime coats, whereby it is utilized to treat granular base courses to secure improved bonding of the foundation onto the asphalt surface. It provides a stronger and more durable pavement structure, and reduces surface failure in the long term. With its high viscosity and slow curing rate, MC-3000 provides greater penetration of the base materials and is ideal for jobs requiring gradual hardening and stability.
Besides prime coatings, Cutback Asphalt MC-3000 is also widely used in patching and stockpile mix, thus enabling the ability to produce long-term repair solutions for damaged roads. Its low evaporation rate makes it perform excellently in cold mix use, offering extended workability and ease of handling even under varying weather conditions. MC-3000 is also used in the production of asphalt pre-mix where a durable, well-bonded surface is required. Its limited curing time allows it to be used effectively without compromising on adhesion and traffic load resistance, making it a vital component in modern road building and repair.
Difference Between Cutback Bitumen MC-3000 & MC-800
The most significant difference between Cutback Bitumen MC-3000 and Cutback Bitumen MC-800 is the viscosity and extent of use for which they are appropriate. MC-3000 has a greater viscosity and is more appropriate for heavy-duty applications such as the construction of roads, paving in hot weather and maintenance, for which the curing process should be longer and tougher. On the other hand, MC-800 is thinner, allowing for easy application at lower temperatures and faster penetration and therefore suitable for dust control, surface treatments, and chip seals on open roads. MC-3000‘s increased viscosity provides better adhesion and longer performance, while MC-800 is more suitable for rapid-setting applications and rapid workability under milder conditions.
