Description of Cutback Bitumen MC-30

Cutback bitumen MC-30 is dissolved of bitumen in solvents of kerosene. In many countries, kerosene and other volatile petroleum-derived products are added as a cutter or cutback agent to bitumen to reduce (or cutback) the viscosity of the bitumen.

The diluent temporarily reduces the viscosity of the asphalt cement for ease of handling and application. Cutback MC-30 is used in the road maintenance industry where it is used as a prime coat of the base course prior to placing of the bituminous surface course.

Cutback Bitumen MC-30 is a type of dissolved Bitumen. To produce this type, solvent oils such as kerosene are used in order to change bitumen into dissolved bitumen or liquid pitch, so that, during the consumption process, the solvent oil evaporates and bitumen residue to obtain the desired adhesion. In many countries, kerosene and other volatile petroleum-derived products are added as a cutter or cutback agent to bitumen to reduce (or cutback) the viscosity of the bitumen. The mixture obtained may be called cutback bitumen.

MC-30 is medium curing (MC) cut-back asphalt consisting of penetration grade asphalt cement and diluents or cutter of medium volatility. The diluents temporarily reduce the viscosity of the asphalt cement for ease of handling and application.

Our MC-30 Cutback Bitumen complies with cutback petroleum asphalts of the Medium-Curing type for use in the construction and treatment of pavements as per ASTM D2028-97 reapproved in 2004.

Application of Bitumen MC-30

Bitumen MC-30 is extensively employed in road works and maintenance as a penetrating prime coat to cement unbound road bases such as crushed stone and gravel. It improves adhesion between the subgrade and asphalt layer, consolidating the pavement structure and suppressing dust. MC-30 is also applied in patching and stockpile mixes, making it suitable for patching potholes and broken surfaces. Its ability to be utilized at lower temperatures renders it simple to use in varying weather.

Another major application of MC-30 is as a primer sealer to repel water and provide roadways with added lifespan. MC-30 is also used in asphalt pre-mixes, yielding an effective, high-quality paving material for roads, parking lots, and sidewalks. Controlled evaporation of solvents creates optimal setting conditions with a surface that is long-lasting and resistant. By and large, MC-30 ensures quality, high-strength pavements by increasing adhesion, water resistance, and surface stability.

Difference Between Cutback Bitumen MC-30 & MC-70

The key differentiation between Cutback Bitumen MC-30 and Cutback Bitumen MC-70 is one of viscosity and application convenience. MC-30 has considerably reduced viscosity, thereby permitting greater quickness in the penetration process with simpler ease in application and greater suitability in cases of cool ambient temperatures or work environments necessitating speedy working efficiency and swift attainability. While MC-70 is thicker and utilized for chip sealing, dust control, and surface treatment of unsurfaced roads or less extreme climates where there is a need for moderate curing, the higher viscosity of MC-70 results in stronger durability and adhesion to the surface treatment, while MC-30 is applied where there is the need for rapid curing and cold temperature usage.
