Description
Cutback bitumen MC-250 is dissolved of bitumen in solvents of kerosene. In many countries, kerosene and other volatile petroleum-derived products are added as a cutter or cutback agent to bitumen to reduce (or cutback) the viscosity of the bitumen.
The diluent temporarily reduces the viscosity of the asphalt cement for ease of handling and application. Cutback MC-250 is used in the road maintenance industry where it is used as a prime coat of the base course prior to placing the bituminous surface course.
Cutback MC-250 is a type of dissolved Bitumen. To produce this type, solvent oils such as kerosene are used in order to change bitumen into dissolved bitumen or liquid pitch, so that, during the consumption process, the solvent oil evaporates and bitumen residue to obtain the desired adhesion. In many countries, kerosene and other volatile petroleum-derived products are added as a cutter or cutback agent to bitumen to reduce (or cutback) the viscosity of the bitumen. The mixture obtained may be called cutback bitumen.
MC-250 is medium curing (MC) cut-back asphalt consisting of penetration grade asphalt cement and diluents or cutter of medium volatility. The diluents temporarily reduce the viscosity of the asphalt cement for ease of handling and application.
Our MC-250 Cutback Bitumen complies with cutback petroleum asphalts of the Medium-Curing type for use in the construction and treatment of pavements as per ASTM D2028-97 reapproved in 2004.

Application of Cutback MC-250
Bitumen MC-250 is a cutback asphalt with medium curing, having good penetration and adhesive characteristics, which has widespread use in roadwork and road repairs. It is applied as a prime coat penetrant in penetrating prime coats where it is sprayed on a compacted aggregate base for strength gain in bonding between the base course and asphalt overlay. This process also increases the road’s structural integrity and offers enhanced resistance to traffic loads. MC-250 is also extensively used in patching and stockpile mixtures, thus making it an ideal solution for repairing damaged pavement sections and efficiently maintaining road surfaces.
Cutback Asphalt MC-250 is also another critical use in primer sealing, which forms a strong adhesive bond between road layers, thus preventing early failure and enhancing pavement life. Due to its medium-curing behavior, it is able to provide a balance of workability and drying time and can be utilized in various weather conditions and environments of buildings. Additionally, MC-250 is generally used in asphalt pre-mix production, particularly for cold mix use where rapid compaction and setting become essential. With its controlled curing rate and viscosity, it is a reliable material to offer lasting and durable road surfaces.
Difference Between Cutback Bitumen MC-250 & Cutback Bitumen MC70
The main difference between Cutback Bitumen MC-250 and Cutback Bitumen MC-70 lies in their viscosity and application suitability. MC-250 is thicker in viscosity and suitable for prime coats, surface dressing, and maintenance under warm weather conditions, as it possesses better adhesion and durability. It is for heavy use and treatment in the areas that demand the controlled curing rate. In contrast, MC-70 has significantly less viscosity and, as a result, can be applied at lower temperatures with better penetration. MC-70 would typically be utilized in dust control applications, chip seal, and surface treatments of unpaved roads where earlier curing and earlier workability are required. While MC-250 can be used for more demanding applications, MC-70 is more demanded for working in less demanding, sooner-set jobs.
