General description of Bitumen 30/40
Penetration Grade Bitumen 30/40 are specified by the penetration and softening point test. The designation is by penetration range only. The penetration grade bitumen’s have a thermoplastic property which causes the material to soften at high temperatures and to harden at lower temperatures. The Bitumen mode is dependent on temperature.
The temperature-vs-stiffness relationship of bitumen is dependent on the type of crude oil and its refining method. Blown Asphalt is mainly used in the manufacture of hot mix asphalt for bases and wearing courses. It is a kind of bitumen and standard penetration grade. This type is petroleum-grade bitumen, manufactured from fractional- vacuum destination of crude oil.
Bitumen Grade 30-40 is Semi-Hard penetration grade bitumen used as Paving Grade Bitumen suitable for road construction and repair also for the production of Asphalt pavements with below Penetration Bitumen 30/40 Specifications. Penetration determines the hardness of bitumen by measuring the depth to which a standard loaded needle will vertically penetrate in 5 seconds, in a sample of bitumen maintained at a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. Application of Paving Grade 30/40
This grade of bitumen is also mainly used in the manufacture of hot mix asphalt. also, Bitumen is suitable for road construction and repair for asphalt pavements with superior properties. Bitumen is used for hot mixed asphalt because of the properties of very strong viscosity compared to other grade. Also used in specialized applications like airport runways and also in very heavy traffic volume roads in coastal cities in the country.
Important points when using bitumen 30/40:
- Before applying bitumen, clean and dry the surface completely.
- Heat the bitumen at a suitable temperature until it reaches the desired viscosity.
- Use proper safety equipment such as gloves, goggles and mask.
- When working with bitumen, ensure proper ventilation of the workplace.
Packing of Bitumen grade 30/40
Bitumen’s packaging is a real concern especially if it’s meant to be exported, the better and safer packaging, guarantees the better delivery of the cargo. There are several different ways to package the bitumen which can vary depending on the tonnage, type, and grade of the bitumen- as mentioned before, different grades of bitumen have different levels of stiffness and viscosity- so the grade also plays an important role in choosing a suitable packaging. Bitumen grade 30/40 is commonly packed in new steel drums, 150, 180 & 220 Kg barrels and Jumbo Bags or 300 Kg Bitubag.
