Cutback Bitumen SC-3000

Description of Cutback Bitumen SC-3000

Cutback Bitumen SC-3000 is an anionic bituminous product that is applied in road construction and treatments, such as surface treatments like chip seals and dust control on unpaved roads. It is made by the addition of solvent to bitumen, reducing its viscosity, hence the ease of application at low temperatures.

The “SC-3000” grade is indicative of a certain viscosity level and, therefore, is intended for use in warm weather regions or for heavy-duty applications. Cutback Back SC3000 is produced by combining a heavy industrial solvent such as black oil or diesel with pure bitumen, containing 80% of pure bitumen.

The production is according to ASTM D 2026M-15 standard and is available to applicants. BS group Bitumen SC3000 is a slow-curing cutback asphalt, complies with ASTM D2028-97 for pavement construction and treatment, reapproved in 2004.

Where is Cutback Bitumen SC-3000 used?

Cutback Bitumen SC-3000 is a retarding bitumen used in road construction for continuous granulation and construction of the base, lining, and top of asphalt. It is commonly used in penetrating prime coats and producing patching or stockpile mixtures. The solvent evaporation time of this bitumen is long, making it less used by road construction engineers. It is used to lower the viscosity of bitumen when applied as a primer to the surface of road pavement aggregate base courses or substrates.

Kerosene is used as a bitumen cutback agent at different concentrations according to local conditions and requirements. SC3000 is ideal for prime coat and cold applied applications due to its easy use and no need for thinning and heating. It is also used for waterproofing surfaces, plugging capillary voids, coating, and bonding loose mineral particles.
