General definition of Bitumen Grade 70/100
Producer of Paving Grade Bitumen 70/100 is a standard penetration grade Bitumen usually used as a Paving Grade Bitumen suitable for road construction and for the production of asphalt pavements with superior properties. The Bitumen mode is dependent on temperature. The temperature-vs-stiffness relationship of bitumen is dependent on the type of crude oil and its refining method.
Bitumen penetration grade is semi-hard penetration grade bitumen used as a paving grade bitumen which is suitable for road construction and repair. Unlike modified binders, penetration grade bitumen acts as a Newtonian fluid at high in-service temperatures, which allows one to establish a temperature/viscosity relationship. Bitumen 70/100 is used in the construction of single seals, double seals and Cape seals, either as a tack coat or penetration spray.
It has an optimum viscosity in the range of temperatures for mixing and laying that guarantees easy workability of the products, even for high-stress conditions. The product meets the ASTM, GB, and European standard EN 12591 and achieves the maximum level of hardening resistance. Softening point and penetration
Penetration grade bitumen is pure petroleum grade bitumen, manufactured from vacuum bottom by passing hot air. The bitumen produced from remain of crude oil after cracking and removing hydrocarbon. Penetration grade bitumen 70/100 has penetration between 70~100 desi-millimeter and softening point between 43 ~ 51C. The penetration grade has a thermoplastic property which is like as synthetic resin material which gets softer with heating and hardens when cooled. This grade of bitumen 70/100 has very strong viscosity compare to other grades.
Application of Bitumen 70/100
This grade of bitumen is also mainly used in the manufacture of hot mix asphalt. also, Bitumen is suitable for road construction and repair for asphalt pavements with superior properties. Bitumen is used for hot mixed asphalt because of the properties of very strong viscosity compared to other grades. Also used in specialized applications like airport runways and also in very heavy traffic volume roads in coastal cities in the country.
Storage and Handling Recommendations
Store in unopened containers. Storage temperature limits 1°C – 50°C. For normal operations, such as blending and transferring liquid bitumen, temperatures of 10ºC – 40ºC above the minimum pumping temperature are recommended.
