What is Oxidized Bitumen 75/25
Oxidized Bitumen 75/25 is a semi-solid bitumen product produced by air-blowing through asphalt flux, which is pure petroleum bitumen. The air-blowing process develops the physical properties to an extent that the material is applied in various ways in construction applications. The material is based on 60/70 petroleum bitumen that has been oxidized by hot air. The number 75/25 indicates the midpoint of its softening point and penetration values. Softening point value is given by the Ring and Ball method, in °C, according to ASTM D36, and the penetration value is expressed in 1/10 mm, according to ASTM D5 or IP 49.
It has a high softening point than any other grade of oxidized bitumen and is very resistant to changes in temperature. Being more stable in the case of change of conditions, it shall be used under more harsh operating conditions. Oxidized Bitumen: one type of bitumen which, on heating, reaches a liquid state that consists of bitumen, asphalt, molten oils, and aromatic resins. They have different softening points and penetrations.

Oxidized Bitumen 75/25 Application
This bitumen that has been oxidized is used heavily across industries due to its thermal resistance, water tightness, and stability. Some of its significant uses are mentioned below:
Construction & Civil Engineering
Oxidized bitumen finds immense application in the civil engineering and construction industry, as it significantly improves the performance of asphalt to avoid deformation on roads. Sealing cracks on pavements and repairing roads are common uses, given that strong adhesion ensures road surfaces. It also is a very efficient dust-binding component for unbound roads, suppressing erosion while preventing airborne dust.
Roofing & Waterproofing
One of the significant applications of oxidized bitumen is in waterproofing and roofing. It is used in roof coating to provide a waterproof, protective coat that insulates buildings from harsh weather. It is also an essential material in the production of bitumen membrane sheets, which are used heavily for insulation and moisture protection in buildings. As an impregnating and insulating material, it is used to resist water penetration and enhance structural strength.
Industrial Applications
Oxidized bitumen is widely used in industrial uses in the form of pipe coatings, which provides excellent corrosion resistance and resistance to harsh temperatures. It is also used in hydraulic uses as a water-resistant coating in dams, canals, and other engineering structures. Bitumen 75/25 has its application in the paint and coating industry, primarily in the manufacture of paints, predominantly in hot conditions, to provide adhesion and hard-wearing properties. While so, bitumen 90/40 is optimally used in roofing, coating of pipes, and hydraulic application, offering strength and weather resistance.
Adhesives & Insulation
Oxidized bitumen is utilized in rubber and plastic applications to enhance the durability and flexibility of products. It is an excellent adhesive in construction materials, giving a uniform, waterproof bond. It is utilized in textile processing, particularly industrial textiles requiring water resistance and strength.
Owing to its unique properties, oxidized bitumen remains a crucial material in industry, manufacturing, and infrastructure, offering durability, strength, and environmental resistance in different industries.
Storage and Handling of Oxidized Bitumen 75/25
Oxidized bitumen 75/25 should be handled and stored with proper safety precautions to maintain its quality and ensure workplace safety. It should be kept in dry, well-ventilated storage areas away from direct sunlight, open flames, and sources of ignition. The material is typically supplied in solid blocks or drums and should be heated gradually in a controlled environment to avoid overheating, which can lead to degradation or hazardous fumes. Proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves and goggles, should be used during handling to prevent burns or skin contact. Additionally, storage containers should be sealed properly to prevent contamination and maintain the desired properties of the bitumen.
Health & Safety
Workers should wear protective masks, gloves, and goggles during application. The asphalt can be removed from equipment and tools with kerosene or gasoline.
Packing
Blown Asphalt 75/25 is available in various packing options, including Kraft Paper Bags, Carton boxes, and Steel Drums. Mold packing is the most expensive but easy to remove. Polyamide bags are heat-resistant and can be filled with water for quick cooling. Craft bags are recyclable and have special materials to prevent bitumen sticking. These grades can be loaded on or without a pallet for customer convenience.
